Yopp-Singer Phoneme Test

On Wednesday, September 9th, 2015 at 8:40, I administered the Yopp-Singer Phoneme test to Jackson. This test consisted of me saying a word and him having to make the sound of each letter that the word was made up of. We practiced 3 words before we began so he had an idea of what I was looking for. Jackson received a raw score of 16/22, which is also known and referred to as a 73%.
This is the list of words that was given:
1. dog 12. lay
2. keep 13. race
3. fine 14. zoo
4. no 15. three
5. she 16. job
6. wave 17. in
7. grew 18. ice
8. that 19. at
9. red 20. top
10. me 21. by
11. sat 22. do
The test took 10 minutes to administer, 8:40-8:50, and Jackson had trouble with numbers 3, 4, 6, 8,12, and 13. I noticed that he struggled more at the beginning because he wasn't taking the time to think about the sound that each letter makes. He was more focused on spelling out the words rather than their sounds. I saw this particularly in the word wave. He was thinking about making sure he had the spelling correct and ending up making an H sound when there isn't an H in the word wave. As the test went on though, I noticed that Jackson was taking more time when it came to sounding out the words because he didn't have any trouble with numbers 14-22. If he did have problems where he started off spelling the word, he would go back and produce the sound that each letter made. This showed me that once he was more comfortable taking the test with me, he was able to focus more on what he was supposed to be doing. Jackson did yawn about 3 or 4 times when we were working together so he may have also had problems focusing because he was tired.
