Student Interview

Today we spent our first day in the classroom! We are currently spending one day a week working side by side with the students in The Learning Academy. I will observe and study a specific student throughout the semester as well as the class as a whole. Today, my classmates and I performed a student inventory interview on our students.

For the purpose of the blog, we are going to call the student that I will be observing and creating interventions for Jackson. Jackson is a 9 year old boy in the 4th grade. He has been attending The Learning Academy since he was in 2nd grade and originally went to public school in Florida. He loves living in Florida because it is warm all of the time and he isn't a fan of the snow and cold. His favorite subject in school is recess and his least favorite is math because it is difficult for him and he is bad with numbers. He said he doesn't like to read in his free time because he would rather be playing Call of Duty with his friends.

Jackson's favorite thing about school is that you get to learn something new everyday. If there was one thing that Jackson could change about school it would be to make math lessons shorter. Despite Jackson not liking math, his goal for this school year is to improve his math skills because they are only okay right now. If he had the chance to learn any language possible he would learn French because it would be cool to know another language and if he ever went to France he would be able to speak the language. Jackson said he wouldn't try any of the foods though because they have weird foods in France. When I asked him to describe himself in three words, he said that he was funny, playful and nice.

Jackson's birthday is on October 19th and his favorite color is green because the grass is green. He has two brothers that are both older than him. They love to play basketball together on the weekends and they go to church every Sunday as a family. They don't have any pets at home and if he could have any pet in the world he would have a dog because people say that a dog is a boy's best friend and he wants to experience that. He loves to play baseball and basketball when he's not in school and watches games around town and at the local colleges. He wants to be a famous baseball player when he grows up.

Jackson's favorite food is pizza and his favorite TV show is Spongebob. He likes Spongebob because it is funny and he can always count on it to make him happy. His favorite character on the show is Squidward be he talks funny. His favorite book series is Diary Of A Whimpy Kid and he owns all of the books at home. He likes that series the best because he can relate to the main character and he thinks it's funny. Jackson also loves the movie Dairy Of A Whimpy Kid because he enjoyed the books so much. His favorite Disney character is Captain Jack Sparrow and he likes to stay up late rather than get up early.
