Our first day in the classroom was Wednesday September 2nd, 2015. I administered the Early Reading Attention Survey, ERAS, (McKenna & Kear, 1990) to Jackson at 9:50 AM. Jackson is a 4th grader in Ms. Swan's classroom at The Learning Academy. On the ERAS, or the Garfield Reading Test as some people refer to, Jackson scored a raw score of 43 on the recreational assessment. When compared to the normative group, the percentile was 99 for recreational. Jackson's academic raw score was a 27 on the academic assessment. His percentile was 52 for academic. Jackson's full raw score was 70 and the total percentile was 100.

This reading inventory test shows that Jackson is in the higher percentile range for recreational reading. This shows that he enjoys reading in his free time and there is only 1% more than him that answered the questions with a lot of super happy Garfield's. The survey also showed that Jackson is in the middle percentile range for academic reading. It shows that he answered most questions with the somewhat happy and sad Garfield regarding reading in school. Jackson enjoys to read but not when it is mandatory or required for school and learning. This survey showed me a lot about my student and it tells me he is interested in reading. I want Jackson to continue to enjoy reading for fun but be able to use the books he reads in his free time to help benefit his school work as well.
